Data That Matters Critiques- The WHY
  1. Constructive feedback is both positive and supportive to growth in analysis.
  2. Critiquing others' work helps train your brain to critique your own.
  3. Different perspectives – when it comes to editing it is important to get second opinions to see if there is anything you missed. There is value in different views and opinions.

Critique Process
Pull up your Data That Matters. Pull up or get out the instructions for Data That Matters. Pass your computer to your LEFT.

For the person’s data that matters, you are going to leave TWO comments for each of the following sections on ONE piece of data:

Summary- (this is where they describe their chart/data in great and excruciating detail)
  1. One place where their description was really clear, and how that helped them as a reader.
  2. One place where they need to add more detail or explain their data more clearly. You should add ___________ here, because _______.

Interpretation- (this is where they talk about what the data means, and what we know based on on this)
  1. One place that is strong in their interpretation. This part was strong because _____________________.
  2. One place where they need to revise- this could be something they need to add, refine, take out, rewrite.

Pass to the left, repeat the process on the NEXT piece of data (if they don’t have all three, then repeat on one of the earlier two).   When you get your paper back, you should have 6 comments on your summar, and 6 on your interpretation.

Critique Review
Read through your feedback. At the bottom of your Data That Matters, write THREE things that you want to revise. These could be things inspired by what you saw in others’ writing, or things suggested in the comments.

Data That Matters- Conclusion
This is where you tie it all together, and answer your question. You can reference back to the data you have discussed. See the specific questions on the handout to guide your conclusion!  Get this sucker drafted!
