Announcements
  1. People Who Drive to School- Meet with Dave Farkas in Maker Space at the start of 4th period!
  2. Off Campus Work on WEDNESDAY- Smiley Cafe or Durango Public Library. Be there at 9:30am, plan on being released at 12:00.  This is a big chunk of work time, so bring what you need to be productive.  Need to print things?  Do it on Tuesday!

Types of Evidence + Showing Evidence vs. Telling Evidence
  1. Review the different types of evidence- students take notes!
  2. Analyze example slides:
    1. What type(s) of evidence are present in the SHOWING example?
    2. Why is the showing example better/more convincing?

Starter 4: Evidence Analysis
  1. For your thesis, which types of evidence do you need to use to make a strong and successful argument?  Give this as a percentage (they should add up to 100%).
    1. EX: Bella Ogden (Postmodern Poetry)- 80% literary quotes, 20% expert opinions
    2. EX: Maddie Tharp (Youth Political Engagement)- 60% statistical/quantitative, 10% anecdotal, 30% expert opinions
  2. Look through your completed evidence entries in your annotated bibliography. For each source, make a comment of what types of evidence you have from that source.
  3. Once you have done that, what revisions do you need to make to your evidence to have a more convincing argument?  In general, is the evidence you have gathered right now TELLING or SHOWING?

Class Work Goals: By the START of class on WEDNESDAY, I have…
  1. Completed Annotated Bibliography Notes for at least SIX sources
  2. Reviewed the feedback I received from Lori on my first five sources, and revised my notes
  3. Found another source
  4. Completed at least 60% of your POL Notes Plan, and gotten them signed off
  5. Original Research: At least 6 interviews scheduled, 2-3 interviews complete. Surveys- have finalized and distributed surveys to multiple groups, have scheduled a meeting with Kyle to analyze survey data and results.
