Week 4- Weekly Reflection and Danger Zone!

4/30/2018

Senior Survey
Please take the survey in your email- we really do look at these and make changes based on your feedback!

Group Check In
Check in with your group about the following topics:
  1. What's the best/most exciting thing that's happened in your project so far?
  2. What are you most worried about with your project right now?
  3. What help could you use from other people (students, teachers, other?)

Weekly Reflection #2 (write this at the bottom of your Senior Project To Do Document)
With only THREE WEEKS to complete your project, how confident in you in your ability to pull this off well?  Rank your confidence level on a scale of 1-5, with 1 = this is never going to work, and 5 = Putin level.  Explain your ranking, and discuss what you need to do to get on track.  Remember, starting next week we'll be devoting significant portions of your in-class time to prepping and marketing for Senior Exhibition.

Basic Tasks:
  1. Weekly Goal Set (put it on the board!)
  2. Who is getting tuned this week?  (you should probably have more than 1)
  3. Sign up for individual check in on Tuesday or Wednesday

HOMEWORK
You should be AT LEAST halfway done with your project at this point.  If you're not, what do you need to do to catch up?

Week 3- Project Tuning and Project Work

4/24/2018

Project Tunes
Get into your critique group (see list on the board, and on the Cohort Groups document).  In your group, run the Project Tune Protocol for whoever you decided on yesterday.

At the end of the protocol, the person who was tuned needs to complete a Project Tune Reflection--you should do this at the bottom of your
Senior Project To Do Document.  In that project reflection, you should write 1/2-1 page on the following questions:
  1. What were the most useful ideas that you got today from your project tune?  How has your project idea changed?
  2. What are the five most important things for you to do going forward?

Individual Tasks Today:
  1. Revise your to-do list, start checking things off!
  2. Revisit Senior Project To-Do document, update it as possible
  3. Check in with Lori as needed for support, guidance
  4. If you are an exhibition lead, make your plan today!  If you are exhibiting (TED Talk , project, or thesis), talk to your exhibition lead to see what you will need to do for this.

HOMEWORK
Make progress on your Senior Project.  Avoid panic later by doing work now!

Week 3- Reflections and Exhibition Planning

4/23/2018

Today, you should go directly to your Cohort Groups.

Third Period (first 30 minutes)
Get into your critique group (see list on the board, and on the Cohort Groups document).  In your group, briefly discuss the following things:
  1. How are you feeling about your senior project right now, and the progress you made last week?
  2. Where do you want to be by the end of this week?
  3. Who is going to have their project tuned tomorrow?  They should develop a dilemma to present to the group tomorrow.  If more than one person wants to be tuned this week, you could schedule two for tomorrow, or one tomorrow and one on Friday.

Write on the board:
  1. Big weekly goal- where do you want to be by the end of this week?
  2. Check in day (Thursday or Friday)
  3. Who is getting tuned tomorrow (put a check by your goal if you are!)

Individual Tasks Today:
  1. Write weekly reflection (see the bottom of your To Do document for specific prompts, put your reflection at the bottom of that document!)
  2. Revisit Senior Project To-Do document, update it as possible
  3. Check in with Lori as needed for support, guidance

EXHIBITION PLANNING
We need to figure out what our setup will be for All School Exhibition on Thursday evening, and will be meeting as a senior class in Lori's room for the second half of 3rd period to discuss this.  We need the following student crews:
  1. Room Setup (2 crews- one for Kyle's, one for Lori's)
  2. Feedback System (1 for thesis, 1 for TED Talks)
  3. Advertising (how do we get people into these rooms?)
  4. Scheduling (2 crews- one for Kyle's, one for Lori's)

Third Period:
  • Daily to-do list.  What do you need to get accomplished today for your senior project?
  • We will run a whole class project tune of someone's senior project, to remind you how the protocol works.  Starting next week, you will be in small groups running these yourself on Tuesdays.

Fourth Period:

Senior Project Cohorts

4/11/2018

Alright, seniors, this is it!  The final countdown begins!  Here's our plan for today:

TED Talk Finalists:  We will announce the finalists for the TED Talk awards.  These people will be giving their talks the night of All School Exhibition.

Document Review:  Review relevant documents (all of which are linked on the Senior Project Page of my DP at the very bottom).  Senior Project To Do, Cohort Groups.

Review Cohort Group goals and structures:  Cohorts will meet during 3rd and 4th periods on Mondays, Tuesdays, and either Thursday or Friday.  Wednesdays are available for off-campus work. Except for Wednesdays, unless a student has made arrangements with us, they should be on-campus and working on their senior project during 3rd and 4th periods.   Our rooms will also be available for work time during 5th and 6th, and seniors are encouraged to use this time and space!
  1. Mondays- Schedule and goals, check in, set goals for next week, reflective piece for week before, figure out who is getting critiqued on Tuesday.
  2. Tuesdays- Project tunes/critiques in cohort subgroups (groups of 5) and exhibition planning.
  3. Wednesdays- Free work days. As seniors do not have electives on Wednesdays, they may choose to work off campus to get project work done that requires meeting with community partners, gathering resources for events, etc...They are also welcome to work at school and/or seek guidance from senior teaching team as needed during this time.
  4. Thursdays/Fridays- Individual check-ins with cohort advisor (Kyle, Kurt or Lori). Half of seniors will meet on Thursday to check-in with their advisor, the other half will meet on Friday.  On the day that seniors are not scheduled for their check-in, they are expected to work on their senior project at school unless they have specifically made other arrangements with their cohort advisor AND are expected to attend electives as scheduled.

Cohort Group Work Time
  1. Break into cohort groups, fill out Senior Project To Do as much as possible, schedule an individual check-in for Thursday (4th period) or Friday (3rd or 4th)

REMINDER--ALL seniors need to be in their cohort group during 3rd period tomorrow for a dilemma/project tune!

HOMEWORK:  Fill out Senior Project To Do.  Start working your way down your to-do lists!

Senior Project Launch!

4/9/2018

We will next see you all to officially launch your Senior Project on Wednesday, April 11 from 9:30-12:00.  Meet in Lori's room that morning!

Here are some things should be thinking about/doing over the next week:
  1. Senior Project:  What is it?  You should come in next Wednesday with a pretty solid idea of what you're doing for your Senior Project.  If you don't have this yet, you should probably talk to Lori or Kyle in the next few days to help with this!
  2. Senior Project Advisor:  The best senior projects have an outside advisor.  Who is your outside advisor?  If you haven't contacted any yet, now is the time!
  3. Project Tune Dilemma: Bring a project tune dilemma/question with you on Wednesday.  What's one dilemma you have, or problem you are anticipating with your project already?  Have this with you!
  4. Off Campus Schedule:  If your project is going to require time off-campus, come with an idea of how much time, when (do you have external restraints, like a mentor schedule?), and how will you use that time?
We will announce final cohort groups and cohort advisors on Wednesday next week, and will review the schedule and expectations of you then as well (if you want to review before then, review them here: Senior Project Expectations).

Let me know if you have any questions!
