In Text Citation Review-Pop Quiz
Review quiz and correct as class.

MLA Citations
Use the MLA Cheat Sheet to perfect your citations. Call Lori or Grayson over if you want specific help. Don’t wait until the last minute to do MLA citations (especially in text ones), as this becomes more and more arduous of a time sink the longer you put it off.

MLA Formatting
By the end of the day, we will post an MLA formatting checklist, that will guide you step-by-step through formatting your rough draft correctly.  You should plan on spending time tomorrow during off-campus time to complete this step. It’s fairly mindless, and can serve as a good break from writing!

Work Priorities: by Wednesday at start of class I will have done:
  1. Completed a rough draft of parts 1, 2, 3, and at least 50% of part 4 of my thesis.
  2. Started creating a Works Cited that includes ALL the works that are paraphrased or quoted in the thesis
  3. Fixed in-text citations throughout what you have written so far

Erin CR Time
Give Erin CR some feedback on our letter of rec process, so that we can make our systems even better!

Starter 18: The Great Cut and Paste Race
Your table group will be working together to pick the correct transition from a list of options for a given text. I stole this from a previous senior thesis. One of the transitions is from that paper. The rest I hastily made up inside 10 minutes. Choose wisely.

Transitions Practice Individually
Finally, you’re going to take some of your own writing and transition it properly. This sheet should look eerily familiar if you can remember last semester (however long ago that may or may not have been). Once you complete this, it’s time to get back to the grind.

Work Priorities: by Tuesday at start of class I will have done:
  1. Completed a rough draft of parts 1, 2, and 3 of my thesis.
  2. Drafted at least 50% of Part 4 of my thesis (this is probably somewhere between 1-2 pages, depending on how long you anticipate your conclusion to be!)

Keep on Writin'

  2. SPAM 2 handouts are due TOMORROW, Feb 9th
  3. First Drafts are due Next Friday before class

Starter 19: Analysis Framework Practice (make a link to your copy of this doc in your starters)
Your writing task today is to take the setup that was given to you by this starter and write the analysis for the quote. This involves writing a what, why, and connections section. Use context in the quote for what, and make some educated guesses for the why and connections (don’t worry so much about being right here, worry about getting it based on context).

Analysis Framework Assignment
Now you get to do it with your own writing. Yay. This sheet has an exemplar version of the text you just wrote for the starter to get your ideas generating. Then, the final page is all about your paper. Before you move into writing time, take a hard look at some section of your part 3 and use this framework to improve your writing.

Work Priorities, by Start of Class Friday:
  1. SPAM 2 form handed in with reflection done
  2. Parts 1, 2, & almost all of part 3 drafted of my thesis
  3. Started part 4 of my thesis if part 3 is done today.

  4. REMINDER- SNOW DAYS DO NOT CHANGE THESIS DEADLINES

Starter 18:
Dig back into your outline and find 2 quotes you need to bring into your paper. If you did the outline correctly, this should be as simple as glancing down the list and picking any entry.
  1. Write the set up for both quotes:
    1. Here’s the challenge, you cannot use “the author says:”  AND you have to use one of the signal phrase/reporting verbs from the slide in each setup!
    2. If you need ideas, check out the link below
    3. Punctuate your set ups correctly!  Use them to add context and shoehorn some more information into your thesis!

SHOW GRAYSON OR LORI your two correctly set up quotes to move into writing time!

Setting up Quotes
Take a gander at this handout to be able to set up yer quotes. You need evidence, and being able to introduce it properly is going to be essential. Remember, you can use: the author says, a few times, but you’ve got to do more than that. Branch out, try to challenge yourself to set up quotes in a variety of ways.

Work Priorities: by Wednesday at start of class I will have done:
  1. Set up a SPAM 2 meeting with my advisor or turned it in with reflection (you can handwrite reflection, or email it it to Lori or Grayson)
  2. Drafted at least 25% of Part 3 of my thesis (this is probably somewhere between 1.5-4 pages, depending on how long you anticipate part 3 to be!)
