Bill Writing- Day 5

11/8/2016

SCHEDULE SHIFT!!
This will be in effect from Weds. November 2 through Weds. Nov. 16.
  1. Immigration:  3rd- Math, 5th and 6th- Humanities (Ashley).  WEDS:  1- Math, 2- Free, 3 and 4- Humanities.
  2. Climate: 4th- Math, 5th and 6th- Humanities (Lori).  WEDS: 1- Free, 2- Math, 3 and 4-Humanities.
  3. College Debt: 3rd and 4th- Humanities (Lori), 6th- Math.  WEDS: 1 and 2- Humanities, 3- Math, 4- Free.
  4. Executive and Whips:  Follow the schedule for Climate Change (see above).  You will be able to jump back and forth between rooms as you see fit during this time once you check in with Lori.

EXPERTS TODAY!
  • Ruthie Uhl, former college student.  10:10-12:00.  College Debt Committee
  • Bruce Baizel, Earthworks.  12:40-1:30.  Climate Change/Energy Committee
  • Christi Zeller, La Plata County Energy Council.  12:40-1:30.  Climate Change/Energy Committee

Objectives:  By the end of class today, you should…
  1. Have the preamble done.  You will add to it as you keep revising, but the core of it should be complete, with ample evidence and facts.
  2. Have your bill completely drafted.  Remember, a good bill has 5-8 sections, and at least two of those sections have sub-sections that go into greater detail.
  3. Consult with at least one expert.  We have one expert here today for College Debt, and two for Climate Change/Energy.  Use them!
  4. Print TWO copies of your bill for critique.  You could do this tomorrow, but chances are you'll forget, want to print in class, and then I will be highly irritated (and count your bill late).

Remember to use the BILL TEMPLATE on my DP once you start actually writing your bill!

HOMEWORK:

Have TWO printed copies of your complete drafted bills at the start of class tomorrow.  DO NOT PRINT AT THE START OF CLASS.
