  3. Then, week after…it’s project design time!

Starter 20
  1. What is the most interesting thing you found in your Data That Matters research?
  2. What do you know about research ethics?  In other words, to conduct ethical research, what are some of the things you need to consider?  What kind of rules do you need to follow, and why?

Data that Matters Discussions
I’m going to put you in a small group. In that group, I’d like you to discuss the following questions:
  1. Go around your group, and share what topic you studied (housing or education).
  2. What are the most interesting things you discovered or learned about this as you researched?  Work to make connections between your research and knowledge here!
  3. What big questions arose for you as you started to think about this research?
  4. What are the implication of this research for policy?  What are some possible solutions to the issues you see here?
  5. How can you connect what you and your group members found to what you’ve observed in your own life, or in our observations of Durango?

Ethical Principles + Case Studies
Give students the Ethical Principles handout.
  1. Have students read through the handout.
  2. Next to each principle, they must:  Draw a symbol that represents this principle
  3. Give students case studies, and put them into groups of 4.  One person should read the case study out loud, and then the group should discuss and jot down bullet points about their consensus.
  4. Debrief case studies as a class
