Monday- Dialogical Interviews + Interview Prep

Starter 21 (10 min)
  1. How comfortable are you interviewing people?  Explain.
  2. What are some important skills or things to think about in preparing for and completing an interview?

Dialogical Interviews (30 min)
  1. Going to be paired randomly with another person in this class, to conduct a 10 minute interview.
  2. You are going to conduct a dialogical interview- this will create a stronger class community, but also let you practice your interviewing skills in a low-stakes setting. 
  3. Essential Question: How can we better understand how class and inequality affect us?

Interview Requirements (10 min to review assignment)
  1. GOAL = to talk to an expert (preferably local, but not necessarily), and gather information to help further hone your understanding of:
    1. How this issue presents itself in Durango, how it impacts people
    2. What can be done about it
    3. What is being done
  2. Can be done individually or in pairs
  3. Need to make sure we are not double-contacting the same person
  4. MUST be completed no later than the end of next week (10/21)

By the end of class today, you should have...
  1. Chosen a person you would like to interview, and find their contact info
  2. Put that information on the board and in the class document
  3. Written a draft of interview questions to ask that person
  4. Written a draft email to that person asking for an interview- DO NOT SEND IT YET!

  1. Interview choices--  Who do you want to interview?  Put it on the board and in the class document.
  2. Interview contacts- Write the email or script for your phone call.  DO NOT SEND/CALL YET!
    1. Polite salutation
    2. Who you are
    3. Brief explanation of project (essential question + general topic), and what we’re doing
    4. What you would like, how long it will take, topic of interview
    5. How they can reach you 
    6. Your deadline/timeframe (needs to be completed by next Friday, can interview before/after school, during Humanities class, 1st or 4th on Wednesday).
